What the test consists of

The class B theory test (teoriprøven) is a multiple-choice test you sit at Statens vegvesen. It has 45 questions, you get 90 minutes, and the pass mark is 38 correct — about 85 per cent. You answer one question at a time and can move back and forth before submitting.

Statens vegvesen publishes which seven themes the test covers, but not how many questions each theme gets. The mock exams here draw from those same seven themes, weighted towards right of way and signs & road markings — that is our own estimate rather than an official distribution, but they are the two topics people struggle with most.

The topics you are tested on

The syllabus covers seven main topics: right of way, signs and road markings, speed and positioning, laws and rules, driver and owner responsibility, the vehicle, and the driver and other road users. The question bank here holds 1480 questions across those topics, each with an explanation of why the answer is right.

If a topic feels shaky, read the chapter before drilling it. Taking mock exam after mock exam without reading is the most common reason people plateau in the low thirties.

A practice plan that works

Read the chapter, drill the topic, sit a mock exam — in that order. The theory course here has 22 chapters and 58 lessons with 143 hand-drawn diagrams, and every chapter links on to the topic practice that belongs to it.

Once you score 38 or better on two or three freshly randomised mock exams in a row, you are effectively ready. One good result can be luck; three in a row is not.

Where you sit the test, and what happens next

You book and sit the theory test itself at Statens vegvesen, at a traffic station (trafikkstasjon), and you pay a fee for each attempt. VeiMester does not administer the test and is not affiliated with Statens vegvesen — everything here is practice material. The test is offered in several languages, English among them, and all the content here exists in both Norwegian and English, so you can practise in the language you will be tested in.

A passed theory test is valid for three years. If you do not manage the practical driving test within that time, the theory has to be retaken. If you fail, you must wait two weeks before a new attempt — there is no cap on attempts, but the fee applies every time, which is why it pays to practise until you are hitting 38 out of 45 consistently before you book.
