About the test itself

The Norwegian class B theory test has 45 questions and you get 90 minutes. You need 38 correct to pass, which is about 85 per cent — a high bar, and the reason memorising answers rarely gets anyone through.

You book and sit the test at Statens vegvesen, at a traffic station. We do not run the test and are not affiliated with Statens vegvesen; what you find here is practice material.

You can start without paying: the front page, the driving-school map and the course outline are open to everyone, and a free account opens a fixed mock exam of 45 questions, the first chapter of the theory course, and a sample of questions in two topics.

Every question carries an explanation of why the correct answer is correct, citing the rule it rests on. That is the whole point: understanding the rule carries you through every version of the question, while remembering the answer carries you through one.

Frequently asked questions

How many questions are on the theory test, and how long do I get?

45 questions in 90 minutes. The mock exams here are weighted and timed the same way, so the pace is not a surprise on the day.

How many mistakes can I make and still pass?

Seven — that is 38 correct out of 45. From eight mistakes the test is not passed, and we mark your mock exams to the same threshold.

How long is a passed theory test valid?

Three years. If you do not take the practical test within that period, you have to sit the theory test again.

What do I do if I fail?

Wait two weeks, then book another attempt. There is no upper limit on attempts, but you pay the fee each time — so spend the fortnight on the topics you got wrong, practise those specifically, and re-sit once you are hitting 38 out of 45 consistently.

Are these the same questions as the real test?

No, and nobody can offer that: Statens vegvesen does not publish its exam questions. Our 1480 questions are written by us from current regulations — the traffic rules, the Road Traffic Act and the sign regulations — and follow the same syllabus and the same style.

Can I take the Norwegian theory test in English?

Yes. Statens vegvesen offers the test in several languages including English, and everything here exists in both Norwegian and English.

Is there a student discount?

Yes, 20% off full access — 239 kr for a month instead of 299 kr, and 119 kr for a week. You confirm it with the email address your school gave you; upper secondary, vocational college, university college and university all count.
