Laws and rules on the theory test
The theme with the clearest answers – and the most number traps. The limit is 0.2, not 0.5. Five metres, not ten. The test knows which numbers people remember wrongly.
What the test asks
The rules that have a fixed limit or a fixed requirement. The blood-alcohol limit and what applies to medicines and drugs. What you may do with your phone, and that 'while driving' includes the queue and the red light. Where you may not stop or park – the three five-metre rules at junctions, pedestrian crossings and level crossings. What the periodic vehicle inspection is, when it is due, and what the registration document tells you.
And the consequences: penalty points, what costs you your licence, and that points count double during the two-year probation period.

The traps
Outdated numbers. Norway's limit was 0.5 until 2001; it is 0.2 now, and wrong options like to use the old figure. The same mechanism for distances and deadlines: the answer that feels familiar is often a number from a neighbouring rule.
And thinking the rule only applies when it is dangerous. A hand-held phone is prohibited even when the car is standing in a queue. No stopping applies for a second, too. The test rarely asks what is safe – it asks what is legal.

Frequently asked questions
What is the blood-alcohol limit in Norway?
0.2 per mille. Above that, driving is a criminal offence, and the penalty rises with the level. The limit also applies to the supervisor during practice driving, since the supervisor counts as the driver.
May I use my phone when the car is standing still in a queue?
Not hand-held. The ban applies while driving, and a stop in a queue or at a red light counts as driving. You must have parked – stopped and left the traffic – before you can hold the phone.
How close to a pedestrian crossing may I stop?
Not on the crossing, and not within five metres before it. The same five metres apply from a junction and from a level crossing.
