How the mock exam is built

Mock exam, practice test, teoritentamen — three names for the same thing: a free theory test set up like the real one, so you can measure yourself against it before you sit it at Statens vegvesen. You get a 90-minute countdown, a grid of which questions you have answered, and the ability to go back before submitting.

Questions are drawn from all seven official main themes. Statens vegvesen publishes which themes the test covers, but not how many questions each theme gets — the distribution here is our own estimate, weighted towards right of way and signs.

While you are in it you can use “check answer” on a question you are unsure about. That reveals the correct option and the explanation immediately — but it locks your answer in, so you cannot change your mind afterwards. That is deliberate: seeing the answer and then editing your pick would make the score meaningless.

After you submit

You get your score, pass or fail, and a per-topic breakdown, so you can see whether it was right of way or signs that pulled you down. Every question can be reviewed with the correct answer, the explanation, and the provision it rests on.

Results are saved to your account, so your progress follows you between phone and laptop.

From practice to the real test

You book and sit the real theory test at Statens vegvesen, at a traffic station (trafikkstasjon), and you pay a fee per attempt. We do not administer the test and are not affiliated with Statens vegvesen — everything here is practice material. The test is offered in several languages, English among them, and all the content here exists in both Norwegian and English, so you can practise in the language you will be tested in.

Once you pass, the theory test is valid for three years. If you do not take the practical driving test within that period, you have to sit the theory again. If you fail, you simply book a new test — there is no cap on attempts, but the fee applies every time. That is why it pays to use the per-topic breakdown in your result, practise the two or three weakest topics, and only book again once you are hitting 38 out of 45 consistently.

Free versus full access

The free mock exam is fixed: the same 45 questions in the same order, every time and for everyone. That makes it a good baseline, but you cannot sit it repeatedly without starting to remember the order.

With full access a new exam is drawn every time from the whole bank of 1480 questions — 149 kr for a week or 299 kr for a month, one-time payment.
