Part 1: the risks of driving (2 lessons)
Classroom teaching on who is involved in the most serious accidents – age, gender and time of day – and what causes the most common accidents among young drivers. You learn to look at a traffic situation, point out the risk and explain how you would drive.
Part 2: country-road driving (5 lessons)
Practical driving on country roads of varying standard. The focus is reading the road far ahead, driving precisely and economically, and meeting the situations where risk is highest: joining and leaving bigger roads, oncoming traffic, being overtaken and judging whether an overtake can be done. You keep a log along the way.
Part 3: planning and driving in varied traffic (4 lessons)
You plan a trip and drive it – at least three of the lessons are independent driving, with no instruction from the teacher on the way. As a rule two students work together.
Part 4: reflection (2 lessons)
Back in the classroom: what went well, what surprised you, and what you take with you. The course is as much about knowing your own driving style as about driving.
When to take it
Near the end of your training, when you drive independently. The course assumes the basics are in place – it is built to refine, not to teach you to drive. The regulations also require sufficient practice on top.
You can take the theory test before, during or after the course. Take a free theory test and see if you are ready.
